Better Subtitles for Heirs

Guys, I have a confession to make.  Please don't e-punch me to the face or revoke our eternal kdrama-watching friendship, okay?  But I am having a reeeeeeeeally hard time getting through Heirs these days.

I love a good love triangle as much as the next gal, but seriously, this scared-face standoff has happened about forty times.  WE GET IT.
So, you know how the full title for Heirs is actually Heirs: He Who Wears the Crown Must Endure Its Weight (or one of about forty variations on the same theme)?  Well, to stave off some of the boredom, Coco and I started to brainstorm some more apt subtitles for the show.  Here's what we have so far:

  • Heirs: Rich People Are the WORST
  • Heirs: He Who Wears the Crown Probably Has Daddy Issues
  • Heirs: First World Problems
  • Heirs: He Who Wishes to Get the Girl Must Lurk the Most
  • Heirs: Love Is the Moment. And the Moment Is Usually Uncomfortable
  • Heirs: No Event Is Too Small for Dramatic Music
  • Heirs: There's No Such Thing As an Ugly Sweater
  • Heirs: "I Don't Love You" Means "Hug Me Extra Hard"
  • Heirs: Poor People with Awesome Phones
And finally, my personal favorite:
  • H.E.I.R.S.: Hoping Everything Isn't Repeatedly Sucky
On an unrelated note, this is why I roll my eyes quite a bit less when I watch Marry Him If You Dare:

What alternate titles would you give Heirs?  Am I a crazy person, or is anyone else having a hard time sticking with this drama?  If I AM a crazy person, can we still be kdrama friends?

  1. You aren't crazy, at least not yet. The story is moving very slowly, I keep tuning because I want to like it and yet... nothing happens. I've found I am watching it for Won and Young Do, more than anything. A possible title? Heirs, The One Who Wears the Crown Does Nothing But Sulk.

  2. I keep watching because I have a deep desire for Rachel and Young Do to realize they are perfect together. And I want to see more of Tan's brother! But yes, it's going by a bit slow. Shit needs to go down, and it needs to go down fast.

  3. You're not crazy. I gave up before episode 7.

  4. You're not crazy, it probably just isn't your style. We must have opposite tastes. I've been waiting for a long time for a new cheesy light-weight high school drama, so I really love Heirs. Mostly I think the cast is amazing and for the first time in a long time I'm excited to see what happens to every single character. There are still 8 episodes left and I think after the last episode the drama is just getting started. Also, I do not like Marry Him If You Dare. I thought it had potential at first, but Na Mi-rae drives me crazy for so many reasons that I just gave up.

  5. You're not crazy. I feel the same. I haven't watched this weeks episodes because I'm getting so annoyed with it. The endless repeating is kinda (unintendedly) funny - somehow it makes me think of dramatic chipmunk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Y73sPHKxw).
What annoys me to no end is the "sexual" (for want of a better word) aggression and possesiveness. The poor girl is in a tight spot, she has no control over her life whatsoever, simply because she's poor, and she hates it. In comes this a...hole who makes her life even harder just because he wants her. He makes her cry frequently, he causes nothing but problems, is possessive, arrogant and jealous. He stalks her and forces her into a kiss. And suddenly she goes "I like you, too" - WTF?! Where did that come from?! I mean, he's Lee Min Ho and we all knew she was going to fall in love with him, but somehow I had hoped that he'd realize how badly he's treating her and change and only then she'd start liking him. As it is, he's not much better than the "villain".
Hm, maybe "Heirs: me wanting you to is enough reason to love me" or "Heirs: double the assholes of other kdramas"
I also keep confusing all the people. It's like they doubles the cast of usual dramas and I have a hard time remembering which bitchy mum belongs to whom and who is the son of which cold rich dad. The best in this drama so far is that secretary guy.
Sorry, I'll stop ranting. I'm glad someone else feels like me about this drama, too.

  6. I'm sooo glad I got turned off by the excessive hype and never started Heirs. From what I've read here and other places, I'm not missing anything.

  7. My Favorite Title- Heirs: No Event Is Too Small for Dramatic Music! No you aren't crazy, this drama is tough to love. I really want to, but there are so many problems.

Another title: Heirs: The Drama of Long Stares and Dramatic Pauses

I wrote a blog post about my thoughts on Heirs. Feel free to check it out here:

  8. Not crazy. Heirs falls flat. I really wanted to love it but its just urgh. I'm watching and LOVING Secret. Much better choice. So much drama filled with characters you will love to hate

  9. Never actually started, since it seems a bit...not so interesting...
But I'm glad that some else roll their eyes during marry him if you dare!

  10. I think you're right, some episodes are harder to get through then others. So far my favorite episodes have been 8 and 11, but it always gets so slow after those. The fact that it's not a slam dunk every time really sucks because the cast is amazing.

  11. Vivi and Coco! You guys should totally check out Reply 1994! That is the drama that is killing it this season. A worthy successor to Reply 1997 without a doubt.

  12. ABSOLUTELY - I'm watching five airing series at the moment, but only look forward eagerly to AM1994 - superb and every bit as good as 1997

As for Heirs, I loved this one "Love Is the Moment. And the Moment Is Usually Uncomfortable" almost as much as I hate the song.

I'm sticking with Heirs only for the super cute, super normal 2nd couple - Min Hyuk & Krystal are doing a great job together and if it wasn't for them I would not be watching watching what seems to be a contest to see how long Park Shin Hye and Kim Woo Bin can be exposed to the mutant sweater aliens Lee Min Ho wears before their eyes start bleeding.

  13. NOT CRAZY! Oh my goodness, I thought I was the only one! haha! I'm so glad I'm not... I really really really wanted to love it, but I just don't... After episode 10, I gave up... I may finish it once it's over, but it definitely was not worth the hype :/ As far as alternative titles go, I love,
Heirs: Love Is the Moment. And the Moment Is Usually Uncomfortable
Heirs: There's No Such Thing As an Ugly Sweater
Something must be done... Kim Tan's sweaters are HORRIBLE... lol XD

  14. So, I think I’ve figured out the difference between watching The Heirs as opposed to watching a more solid show, like the Master’s Sun... Waiting for the next episode of The Master’s Sun is like waiting by the phone for the boy you like to call and say goodnight. You feel giddy and anxious at the potential of a beautiful and fulfilling relationship. However, waiting for the next episode of The Heirs is like getting a text at 2 am that simply reads, “You up?” You know answering that text will lead to nothing good, but you do it anyway because, gosh, those boys are just so darn pretty.

  15. OMG I love this: waiting for the next episode of The Heirs is like getting a text at 2 am that simply reads, “You up?” You know answering that text will lead to nothing good, but you do it anyway because, gosh, those boys are just so darn pretty. I've SO done my time answering that text/phone call. Heirs is a car wreck. I know I'm going to be disappointed, but I watch it anyway for the pretty. And lately for the bad styling. Like exactly why can't that million won uniform actually fit PSH? And the sweaters? And LMH's coats/jackets? I stopped counting at 7 different coats in the last episode. This show had so much potential with the cast, and between the writing and directing it's been squandered.

  16. I admit that the plot needs to deepen, but I also must say that somehow I can't stop watching it. I was shocked to realize I'd made it all the way to episode 14 last week. It doesn't seem like it's been airing for that long..

  17. As much as I heart Yoon Eun Hye, "Marry Him If You Dare" bores me and have fallen asleep while watching it.

    1. I was really enjoying it at first, but it went downhill fast. So boring! It's a pity, too, because I kept hoping it would be the drama to beat Heirs.

  18. You are not crazy! I'm disappointed because I really love LMH and I was looking forward to his work. When can i see him a a 'grown up' drama, please??!! There was such a huge hype created around Heirs, and frankly it has been a huge let down. "Love is the moment, and the moment is usually uncomfortable." Yeah...it kinda is. From the terrible sweaters (really, how dare they clothe LMH in such seizure inducing outfits!!), to the excessive tension and the 'No event is too small for Dramatic Music" moments...It's just too much. I've been watching once every 2 or 3 weeks. And I feel like I'm cheating bc I'm watching more for Kim Woo-Bin than for Min-Ho. :-/ Mian haeyo!!!

  19. Heirs: ''Why is my face yellowish green?''

Have you guys noticed that? There's something very wrong with their makeup and it bothers me every time I see those green faces! :D

    ReplyDelete
  20. And the pink lipstick on the men. Gross! What's wrong with their natural lip color?

Love is my pain........ this song is my pain.... LOL.

  21. no you are not crazy... it was so bad that i still cant understand the hype of this drama
they had so many good actor and actresses and even they couldnt save the drama...
